How to find customers on Reddit

Search for real buying questions, judge fit, read the rules, then reply as a person.

To find customers on Reddit, search for people describing the problem your product solves in their own words, check whether your product is a real fit, read the community's rules, and reply with a useful answer first. Most of the work is in the first three steps. Posting takes a minute.

Before you search

Start with the problem, not the product. A search for your product name will mostly find people who already know it. A search for the situation that leads to needing it will find people who do not know it yet. Write three or four sentences that describe that situation, then pull out the words a customer would use.

The six steps

  1. Write the problem in the customer's words. Describe the problem your product solves the way a customer would say it, not the way your landing page does. Keep a list of the phrases you hear in calls and support messages.
  2. Search Reddit for those phrases. Use Reddit search with the phrases from your list. Sort by new to see recent posts, and search inside the communities you already know are relevant.
  3. Judge whether the person has the problem. A good lead describes a specific situation, says what they tried, and asks for a recommendation or a way out. Skip posts that are jokes, old, or only loosely related.
  4. Read the community rules before you reply. Open the subreddit sidebar and its rules. Check whether links are allowed, whether self-promotion is limited, and whether you need a certain account age or karma.
  5. Reply with a useful answer first. Answer the question directly. If your product helps, mention it once in one sentence, disclose that you built it, and link only if the rules allow it.
  6. Stay for the follow-up. Answer the replies you get. Log which communities and phrases produced real conversations, and drop the ones that only produced silence or complaints.

What a real lead looks like

A useful post usually has three parts: a concrete situation, something the person already tried, and a clear wish for a better option. For example, someone who writes that a scheduled job failed for a week before anyone noticed, and asks how others get alerted, is a stronger lead than someone who writes that monitoring is important.

Be careful with posts that are old, deleted, joking, or asking about a different product category. A high score does not mean the person has the problem, and a quiet post can still be a good fit.

How to write the reply

Answer the question as if your product did not exist. Explain the pattern, the trade-offs, or the free tool that would solve it. Then, only if your product helps, add one plain sentence: what it does, and that you built it. Do not paste a feature list, a discount or a sign-up request into a reply to a stranger.

How Distrarc helps with the search

Distrarc is one of the tools that automates the search steps. You paste your website, it reads the product and proposes who it is for, and it searches public sources including Reddit for conversations that match. Each result links to the post, shows the date and gives a short reason it fits. Matching posts can be rerun on a schedule on a plan, and a draft reply is prepared for each one. You decide what to post.

If no strong match is verified, the report says so rather than filling the list. To see what it would find for your own product, get a free first report. Plan limits and rerun frequency are on the pricing page.

Questions about Reddit lead generation

Is it allowed to mention my product on Reddit?

Sometimes. Each subreddit sets its own rules about self-promotion and links. Read the rules first. If a community does not allow product mentions, help with the question without one, or do not reply there.

Should I disclose that I built the product?

Yes, in every reply that mentions it. A short line such as "Disclosure: I built this" is enough. Many communities expect it, and readers trust a disclosed recommendation more than a hidden one.

How often should I check for new posts?

Often enough to answer while the question is still active, which usually means within a day for a fresh post. Distrarc can rerun a saved search on a schedule, from every hour to every six hours depending on the plan.

Can Distrarc post replies on Reddit for me?

No. Distrarc finds posts and drafts replies. You review, edit and post them from your own Reddit account. Distrarc does not post or message for you.
