AI cold email for founders

Where AI helps with cold email, where it hurts, and the checks to run before anything is sent.

AI can speed up the research and drafting parts of cold email. It should not choose your targets for you, invent the reason you are writing, or send anything on its own. The safe version starts from a real public signal, sends only to addresses you have a right to contact, keeps each message short and specific, and puts a person in charge of every send.

What AI does well in cold email

  • Reading a company's public pages and summarising what it sells, so you do not have to.
  • Turning a real signal, such as a public post asking for a tool, into a first line you can check.
  • Producing a few wording options so each message does not read like a template.
  • Cutting a long draft down to the one question you want answered.

What to keep human

Choosing who to write to is the most important decision in cold email, and it should be yours. Keep the claims in your hands too. If a message says a customer saw a result, that customer must exist and must have said so. If a message says a problem is common, you need a source. AI tools make confident sentences easily. They do not check them.

A person should also read every reply. A reply that says no, asks a question or points out a mistake is the most useful signal you will get, and it should not be handled by an automatic sequence.

Checks to run before anything is sent

  1. The signal is real. Open the source and confirm the person wrote what the message says they wrote, on the date shown.
  2. The address is verified. Do not send to an address built from a pattern unless a verification service has marked it valid. Do not buy lists of addresses without knowing where they came from.
  3. There is one clear reason to write. One problem, one product, one question. If the message needs three paragraphs to justify itself, the target is probably wrong.
  4. Your identity and an opt-out are visible. Name yourself and your company, give a real address, and say how to stop hearing from you.
  5. Volume is small enough to read. Start with a batch you could check by hand. Scale only after replies show the message works.
  6. The sequence stops on reply. Anyone who answers, in any way, should leave the sequence and get a person's response.

Guessed addresses are not a shortcut

The fastest way to send a lot of cold email is also the fastest way to damage a domain. Addresses guessed from a naming pattern bounce, hit spam filters and land in people's inboxes without any context. If you cannot verify an address, use another channel or skip the person. A smaller list that you can defend is worth more than a large one you cannot.

A short example of a defensible first line

Weak: "I noticed your company is growing fast and thought our tool could help." It names no source and could be sent to anyone.

Stronger: "Your team asked on a public forum last week how to get alerts when a nightly job stops running. I built a small tool for that, and I can send the setup I would use if it helps." It points to a real public post, says who wrote it, offers something useful and discloses that you built the product.

How Distrarc handles email

Distrarc is built around the same checks. It finds public conversations first and drafts replies or messages for you to review. Guessed or pattern-built addresses are not used unless a verifier has marked them valid. Nothing is sent to an outside party until you approve it. Email outreach runs from mailboxes on a domain you own, and which plans include it is listed on the pricing page.

Questions about AI cold email

Is AI cold email legal?

It depends on where your recipients are and what they agreed to. Rules on unsolicited email differ by country and change over time. Include a real identity and a clear way to opt out, and check the rules that apply to your recipients. This guide is not legal advice.

Can I email someone whose address I guessed from their company's domain?

Not on the strength of the guess. A pattern-built address should only be used after a verifier has marked it valid. Distrarc works this way: a guessed address is not used unless a verifier says it is valid.

Should AI write my cold emails?

It can draft them. Read each one, check every claim against a public source, and rewrite anything that sounds generic. A first draft from a tool is a starting point, not the message.

Does Distrarc send cold email without my approval?

No. Drafts wait for your approval. Anything that leaves to an outside party is sent only after you approve it. Check the pricing page for which plans include email outreach.
